Truck Washbay
Truck washbay was built in 2014 to protect the high health of our herds as well as the herds of our customers. It is a traffic controlled biosecure site. The wash bay uses 2 high pressure washer hot water systems with foaming pre-wash soap and foaming disinfectant. In floor heat along with air inlet exhaust fans create a drying area. All trucks and trailers are fully washed, disinfected and dried before every use.
New Technology
In the summer of 2014 one of our nursery barns was converted to a finisher barn. With this renovation a Nedap pig sorter/scale was installed into each of the eight rooms.
The rooms are set up so the pig must go through the scale to access the feed and water. This records its weight every visit and records how many times each pig goes through the scale in a day. The pigs are identified by RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag. These tags are put in as soon as the pig enters the barn. This allows us to track each individual pig from the time they enter the barn to the time they leave. All information collected is transmitted back to a main computer where reports of weight, growth, number of visits to feed can all be seen. It also keeps track of inventory and has a prediction of when and how many pigs will be ready for market.
There are 3 different sections that you can set up in the room so the pigs can be put on the right ration for their weight range. Once they are weighed the system will know what section to send the pigs to based on the sort criteria you enter and will put them through the proper exit.
The sort function is used when there are pigs ready for market. Instead of trying to find individual pigs, you enter your preferred weight range into the computer and the sorter will have those pigs sorted into a pen for you the next day. This makes shipping pigs more efficient with less man power needed and gets them into the right weight range.
The benefits to this system is:
